Hofbräukeller

The Hofbräukeller in Munich is a great Grade II listed building owned by the brewery Staatliches Hofbräuhaus.

Location

The building is located in Munich's Haidhausen at Wiener Platz. It is located at the northeastern end of the interior of Viennese street.

Building

The current soft green painted building in the architectural style of the Renaissance Revival was built in the late 19th century. The building is now part of the Bavarian monument list. A beer garden is located at the rear of the building with wooden arches, which served as stables for horses during use as a brewery.

History

The area around the Gasteig in Haidhausen in which the Hofbräukeller was built on the site of older basement, was at that time the center of breweries and beer cellar. When the brewery Hofbräuhaus am Platz was no longer sufficient, the brewing operation after Haidhausen was outsourced; 1896 to 1988 there was the production site of the Hofbräuhaus brewery here on the inside Wiener Straße.

After smashing the Munich Soviet Republic were previously denounced on 5 May 1919 at the Beer Garden, innocent citizens Perlacher shot by Freikorps members. A plaque at the northeastern entrance to the beer garden reminded today of the victims. The afterwards became German dictator Adolf Hitler held its first party political speech on 16 October 1919 Hofbräukeller, the course of which he depicted in his infamous book Mein Kampf; even after the Hofbräukeller was often the scene of political right events.

On 6 April 1987, burned out today existing building and was restored in the following years; the remaining brewing plants along the inside Wienerstraße remained undamaged, but were demolished after laying of the brewing operation to Munich -Riem and made residential area, which were built by the Bavarian construction. Today, the building of the Hofbräuhaus Keller in addition to those of the Unionsbräus the last witness of the once thriving in Haidhausen in numerous holdings brewing industry.

Use

In the northeastern part of the building is the same restaurant business, since 1995, leased to the current host family Steinberg. This property offers Bavarian cuisine for most domestic guests. The guest space for regular guests on the ground floor, the first floor there are two ballrooms. There are 1,800 seats including the rear beer garden in the west; it is adjacent to the Maximilian Park.

In the basement there is a dance hall. In the second basement floor, the rooms are used by a jazz club. By the year 2008, the theater of Valentin Karlstadt Theater Workshop.

The southwestern part of the building, the former malt house, houses offices of various companies.
