Development of the district

The name goes back to the medieval courtyards division of the territory in the Front Yard ( Pfäffikon SZ) and the rear yard ( Wollerau ) originally belonged both to the basic property of the monastery of Einsiedeln. During the Helvetic Republic (1798-1803), the two farms were part of the district of Rapperswil in the short-lived Canton Linth. 1803 were the farms under the names Pfäffikon District and District Wollerau again separate administrative units. After Sonderbundskrieg the Canton of Schwyz received a new cantonal constitution, on the basis of which the two " patios " on February 27, 1848 farms were merged in the new district. The involuntary reunification led to a compromise in determining the district municipal seat of alternately Wollerau is for four years and for two years Pfäffikon capital - based on the size and importance of the rear respectively of the Middle Court.

The scheme is applicable to the present, even if the meaning has been reduced virtually to the title; the district administration ( notary, district office, district court ) is located in the new town hall of Wollerau, only change the site of the annual District Municipality Assembly.
