Hofheim is the center of the western Haßberge. The city is located about 265 m above sea level.

History

From 780 to 800, the place was a Carolingian Bailiwick ( first documented as hoveheimono, but possibly founded even earlier under the name Hofingen, this is the dialect to this day the name of the city). From 1500 Hofheim was in the Frankish Empire circle. In 1576 the granting of town rights by Prince Bishop Julius Real Mespelbrunn was. In the 18th century, the Lenders houses Gate and the Gate Goßmann villages were built. In 1803 Hofheim came under Bavarian administration, from 1806 to 1814 it was under the Grand Duchy of Würzburg, then it came back to Bavaria. Between 1862 and 1900 the allocation was made to the royal county Königshofen, 1892 the connection to the railway network.

In the November 1938 pogrom the synagogue of the Jewish community was looted in the Kirchgasse 11 of SA men, mentioned in a plaque behind the Town Hall recalls. However, they remained as building retained and used as a residence.

With the dissolution of 1900 created the county Hofheim in francs on 1 July 1972 and the formation of the new district Haßberge (initially as Haßberg circuit) from large parts of the two counties Hofheim in francs and boars as well as the county Haßfurt during the Bavarian municipal reform lost Hofheim important. In 1976, the 400th anniversary of the city was celebrated. In 1995 it came to the closure of the railway line to Haßfurt and the dismantling of the railway tracks in 1996/97 and their conversion into a 15 -mile bike path.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1972, the formerly independent communities Erlsdorf and Manau were incorporated. Sulzbach was added on 1 January 1974. The market Ostheim followed on 1 January 1975. Territory parts of the disbanded community Hainert then with about 50 residents were reclassified on 1 January 1976 in the city of Hofheim in francs. The series of incorporations was completed with the inclusion of Eichelsdorf and Lenders Hausen on 1 January 1978 and of Goßmannsdorf, Reckertshausen and Rügheim on 1 May 1978.
