Geographical Location

Hofkirchen lies in the Donau -Wald directly on the Danube and on the southeastern border of the Gäuboden. The market is located around 30 km north- west of Passau, 25 kilometers southeast of Deggendorf and 7 km from Vilshofen on the Danube. History

Hofkirchen is first mentioned on 5 November 1005. It came in 1200 in the possession of the bishops of Passau, which left it to the Whose salvors. Already before 1300 the place is called the market, but only in 1387 he was awarded the right to a weekly market every Monday by Duke Albrecht II. Towards the end of the 15th century, the white fields were invested with Hilgartsberg and Hofkirchen. Until 1821 Hofkirchen belonged to the rule Hilgartsberg when Count Eligius Fugger sold them to the state. The market Hofkirchen belonged to Rentamt Straubing and the district court Hengersberg of the Electorate of Bavaria. Hofkirchen had market rights with magisterial own rights.

The present parish church was built with the help of the nobles of Puchberg and other benefactors and consecrated in 1498. On 18 October 1745 the centerpiece ship of Emperor Franz I.
