Hofors Municipality
Hofors is a municipality (in Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Gävleborg and the historic province Gastrikland. The main town of the municipality is Hofors.
Through the community lead the European Route 16 and the National Highway 68 and the railroad lines Gävle - Falun ( Bergslagsbanan ) and Krylbo - Storvik.
History
The municipality consists Hofors since 1925.
Geography
The municipality is located in the Bergslagen region on the border of Dalarna. It is largely occupied by wooded hills, only the area along the river Storån is flat and open.
In the community there are iron ore deposits, which were mined from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the 20th century.
Economy
In connection with the now-defunct ore mining an iron and steel processing industry, which still dominates the economic life of the community was built. The largest employer is Ovako Steel AB.
