Hofors

Hofors is a place in the Swedish province of Gävleborg and historical province Gastrikland. It is located on the European road 16 (formerly riksväg 80), 54 kilometers west of Gävle and 38 kilometers east of Falun. Hofors is the capital of the municipality of the same name.

Economy

Hofors is a traditional industrial town. Already at the beginning of the 17th century, a steel mill was founded in Hofors that processed the iron ore mines of the nearby Stillgruvan and Storgruvan. Today it is one of the most modern steel plants in the world with a production volume of 400,000 tons of specialty steel in Hofors. Ovako Steel AB is the largest employer in the town.
