The High Eight at Adenau is with 746.9 meters above sea level. NHN, the highest mountain in the Eifel and marks the border of the districts of Ahrweiler and Mayen -Koblenz in Rhineland- Palatinate. On the wooded mountain, which is hiking and winter sports area, is the observation tower Kaiser Wilhelm Tower.

Geography

Location

The Hohe Acht is located in the High Eifel. Your summit rises 5.5 km east of the center of Adenau and 3.3 km ( respectively ) by air north of the core of the local community Herresbach, with the limit of two passes over the summit. Adjacent are the east-northeast and east-southeast Jammelshofen Siebenbach.

Nature Spatial allocation

The Hohe Acht heard in the main physiographic unit group Osteifel (No. 27), in the main unit Eastern High Eifel (271 ) and in the subunit Hohe-Acht/Nitz-Nette-Bergland ( 271.2 ) for natural -ceiling - eight- Bergland ( 271.20 ).

Geology

The Hohe Acht is a tertiary volcano whose cone is composed of rocks of Devonian and whose top of basalt.

Reserves

On the Hohe Acht Nature Reserve is High Eight ( CDDA-Nr. 81906; 1970 reported; 1.67 km ² ). In addition, there are parts of the landscape protection area Rhein- Ahr -Eifel ( CDDA-Nr. 323834; 1980, 925.86 km ² ) and the bird sanctuary Ahrgebirge ( VSG-Nr. 5507-401; 304.23 ha).

Kaiser- Wilhelm- Tower

On the Hohe Acht 1908/ 09, the Kaiser- Wilhelm- Tower was built. Reason for establishing this stone observation tower according to plans by the Berlin architect Baron von Tettau was the silver wedding of Emperor Wilhelm II and Empress Augusta Victoria, and the memory of Kaiser Wilhelm I.

The tower is 16.30 m high, the wall thickness is on the ground floor a meter. Was carried out the construction of the master masons Karl and John Leidinger from Adenau using local stone quarry. The cost was 18,000 Mark. Since 1987, the tower is a listed building.

From the observation deck of the tower offer views into the Eifel ( with Schartenberg, Döhmberg, Michel Berg, Hochthürmerberg, Schöneberg, Nürburg and Hochkelberg ), the Seven Mountains ( with Big Mount of Olives ) and in good visibility conditions, to the Westerwald, the Taunus and Hunsrück and the Lower Rhine.

Sports

During the winter months on the Hohe Acht often good winter sports. Groomed trails, toboggan runs and ski lifts are available.

On the northeast slope of the Hohe Acht existed from 1934 until the 1980s, a ski jump .. your K- point was 25 m. The hill record jumped on March 13, 1955 Karl Heinz Buchholz ( Germany): 22,5 m. In some hiking maps it is still noted.

An approximately 1.5 km southwest of the Hohe Acht -lying section of the located on a 678 m high volcanic cone ruin Nürburg widely orbiting Nordschleife of Nürburgring racetrack called Hohe Acht - see sections of the Nordschleife.

Transport and Hiking

Passing the Hohe Acht leads the South East Federal Highway 412 branches off the predominantly leading westward to Adenau national road 10 from the east near Siebenbach. For example, on these streets beginning, one can discover the mountain on trails and paths. In many places a further view of the Eifel landscape is possible.
