History

As early as the Roman Iron Age crossed a Limesstraße at this point the then here running Ottakringerstraße Bach. 1295 for the first time the High Bridge was mentioned in a document, then a simple wooden structure. After already in 1200 the Ottakringerstraße Bach and later extending in the same bed arm of Alser Bach were derived and subsequently the trickle was filled, served from mid-15th century a brick bridge with Gothic pointed arch as a road bridge. In the 18th century a chapel for the Holy Nepomuk ( patron saint of bridges) consecrated statue was erected on the bridge.

From 1857 to 1858, a new building of the High Bridge took place. Built in the Gothic Revival style bridge was built of brick and provided with a stone parapet as railing. The arch was designed as a Tudor arch, the chapel was not re-erected.

The completed bridge was built in 1904 in Art Nouveau style by the architect Josef Hackhofer, the execution was carried out by Waagner Biro and the court architect Heinz Gerl. The outer fronts are clad with marble finish and the bars of the iron railing with ornaments. In the corner regions of the two previous buildings were mapped. The inner side walls are like business portals designed with shutters, but they are pure decoration, since the depth of the room is only about half a meter behind the shutters.

From 1979 to 1981, the bridge was generalized was set in 1996 was again a repair, among other things, a new lighting concept for the bridge was implemented. Today the building is a listed building and has a roadway with sidewalks on both sides. About a Rose plant to get from Wipplingerstraße on its underlying depths ditch.
