The High -cricket is, depending on the definition ( see section around the fin - products ) to 370.1 m above sea level. NHN high and 30 to 55 km ² large range of hills in the counties Kyffhaeuser and Sömmerda in Thuringia, which ranges on some cards up in the castle district (Saxony -Anhalt).

Geography

Location

The High -cricket in the wider sense is between Bretleben and Reinsdorf about the north, Gehofen, Nausitz and Donndorf in the northeast, Langenroda, Garnbach, Wiehe and Allerstedt in the east, Lossa the southeast, Hauteroda, Oberheldrungen and Heldrungen in the west and Braunsroda in the northwest.

The near-surface geological subsoil of the High -cricket is formed by the rocks of red sandstone and loess.

To the northwest, north and northeast of the High -cricket is encircled by the Saale inflow Unstrut.

History

The High -cricket was part of the core area of the Thuringian kingdom, and had in the outlying castles and mighty Wall fixings ( eg Monraburg ). In the High Middle Ages, the area to the sphere of the Beichlinger counts, the counts of Wiehe and the Thuringian Landgrave ( Raspenburg ) belonged. Of the area under pulling streets were controlled with other castles to them was the castle Rabenswalde. The economic development and the development of the land resulted in the interior of the mountain to the system of settlements and villages, of which testifies to the deserted village Wetzel grove. Until the expropriation without compensation in 1945 was 4,900 ha of the main part of the forest of the family of Werther - Beichlingen.

In the 1930s, an ammunition factory of the German Luftwaffe was east of Lossa built in the eastern part of the High -cricket. For storage of ammunition aboveground, provided with a bank of earth, bunker served. These were demolished in 1945 by the Red Army, disposed of the munitions, especially in former potash mining shafts.

Between 1946 and 1948 was carried out by the Soviet occupying power grubbing up of 2,000 of the 4,900 hectares of forest for a military training area, surrounded by closed military area. Partially allowed to regrow the forest again. In the early 1990s it came to withdrawal of Soviet troops, which were located at Lossa. The LEG was awarded the contract to clean the area of ammunition, as well as to close missile bays and bunkers. 3,000 ha (2010 ) has not yet cleared safely. Then the forest was to be sold. Later, the decision was made for the nature conservation project " High -cricket - Ancient Forest with a Future" (see below).

Flora and Fauna

The scenery on the High -cricket, is characterized by large closed and uncut hardwood forest stocks, in particular through beech woods. In the southeast part of the border between the two states are areas that served as a military training area until the withdrawal of the Soviet army and were kept free of forest for this purpose. The forest land go at their edges usually directly in the intensively managed arable corridor over. However, they are in places interlocked with sometimes large orchards and Semi-arid Brome grass.

The High -cricket provides primarily by their unity habitat for wild cat, black stork and red deer. Here also grow more than 500 different types of large mushrooms.

Reserves

A large part of the High -cricket was recognized in 2004 as a nature reserve Hohe cricket ( CDDA-Nr. 329 442 ). It comprises 34.593 km ² ( 34.37 km ² other claims to ), was as part of the Fauna- Flora-Habitat Area High Schrecke fin ( FFH-Nr. 4734-320; 57.32 km ²) reported to the European Commission and extends up into landscapes that were previously attributed to the Finn. The nature conservation project " High -cricket - Ancient Forest with a Future" was selected as one of five winners of the national competition for large-scale conservation projects and rural development, " idee.natur - Future Prize Conservation " award. But funding from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection was provided.
