The Hohewarte is a built-up hill at about 220 meters above sea level. A. in the 19th district of Vienna, Dobling between the parts of the district Heiligenstadt and Unterdöbling. Also from the north ( Grinzingerstrasse ) and south ( Döblinger main street) on the hill leading street is named as Hohewarte; this was done officially in 1894. The name was already mentioned in 1135.

The Hohewarte is known ( named after its address also Hohewarte ) especially as the seat of the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics, formerly located here Villa Office of the Austrian Federal President, and because of their nature Stadium Hohewarte.

Beginning in 1901, Josef Hoffmann built on the Hohenwarte an artists' colony for wealthy clients. Geography

In 1872, the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics of the Wieden on the Hohewarte moved on. The new district was previously built by Heinrich von Ferstel in 1870 until 1872. The Institute is responsible among other things for the daily Austrian weather. In 1957 it was expanded considerably in the years 1967 and 1973 in addition to a radar tower, a Ballonfüllhaus and a new office building was built on the site of the Central Institute. This office building is now home to a large specialized library in the field of meteorology and geophysics.
