Hohenaltheim

Hohenaltheim is a municipality in the Swabian district of Donau-Ries and Ries member of the administrative community based in Nördlingen.

Geography

Hohenaltheim located on the southern edge of Ries and Ries in the Geopark. The Frog Bach, a swelling flow of Wörnitz, flows through the town.

The municipality consists of the villages Hohenaltheim with the forest solitudes house and saw-mill and the formerly independent municipality of Lower Altheim with the solitudes fountain house and happiness Mill, Full mill, high-rise, Karlshof, Mühlauhof, Schellenhof and Weiherhof.

Neighboring communities, the city of Nördlingen and the community Möttingen, in the east Mönchsdeggingen, in the south Bissingen and Amerdingen and in the west Forheim and Edersheim in the north. Up to the district of Dillingen on the Danube belonging municipality Bissingen all municipalities are part of the district of Donau-Ries.

History

Hohenaltheim was documented as early as 878. 916 the Synod of Hohenaltheim took place here. Until the year 1300 the place was called Altheim. 1508 Hans von Altheim sold his property to the Counts of Oettingen. From the mid-18th century the castle served as a summer residence Hohenaltheim first line of Oettingen- Oettingen, later, the von Oettingen -Wallerstein. With the Act of Confederation in 1806 the place came to the Kingdom of Bavaria. The resulting with the community of 1818 community Hohenaltheim was merged on 1 July 1973 as part of the local government reform with the community of Lower Altheim. The after a major fire in 1899 almost completely destroyed and rebuilt the village of Lower Altheim is under preservation orders.

The coat of arms description reads: In the trunk of a silver gold reinforced and rotbezungten blue lion holding a red sign in the paws; in a blue escutcheon, from which four golden iron hats to shield the edges, the whole covered with a silver tray.

Economy, agriculture and forestry

Although agriculture in the High -and low- Altheim does not play a big role anymore, so you can see the two villages still call marked as agricultural. The forests of the Ries edge are predominantly owned by the Princely House of Oettingen- Wallerstein. In the community there are different businesses, including, among others, a construction business, a nursery, a bakery and a sanitary operation.
