Hohenlandenberg Castle

Castle plateau

The ruin Hohenlandenberg is a ruined castle in the commune of Wila in the Swiss canton of Zurich.

The castle was probably founded around 1300 by the Lords of Landsberg. Mentioned in a document in 1300. She stood at an artificially flattened elongated plateau and was influenced by two trenches in the south and a neck protected in the north.

The castle was a castle addition Landsberger. In 1344 it was destroyed by the people of Zurich and the Habsburgs, apparently, the lord of the castle Beringer II of Hohenlandenberg the robbery and counterfeiting was guilty. Beringer came during the Zurich murder Eight killed.

Stones of the crumbling ruins were used in the construction of the first cotton mill in Turbenthal. The visible today remains of the foundations were uncovered in the winter 1925/26.
