Hohenstaufen (mountain)

The Hohenstaufen is a 684.1 m above sea level. NHN high upstream of the Swabian Alb mountain witnesses and, together with the Rechenberg and the Stuifen the so-called three Kaiser mountains. He is widely visible between the cities of Göppingen and Schwäbisch Gmünd and imprinted with its distinctive conical shape of the silhouette of the landscape around Göppingen. The name of the mountain derives from its shape, which resembles an inverted cup ( Stauf ).
On the hill are the ruins of the ancestral castle of the noble family of the Hohenstaufen, the former castle Hohenstaufen. Explained on the summit a blackboard all-round view. Since 1 June 2002 stands on the Hohenstaufen in memory of the Hohenstaufen Hohenstaufen a Tele.
There is also a small tourist restaurant. The summit can be reached only on foot, the shortest of the eponymous district of Göppingen Hohenstaufen from.
On the southwesterly slope is the so-called play castle, slid down a limestone rock group.
