Hohenzollernplatz (Berlin U-Bahn)

Metro Station Hohenzollern place today is a landmarked Metro Station on subway line U3 in the Berlin district of Wilmersdorf district of Charlottenburg -Wilmersdorf. With the groundbreaking ceremony this station began on October 5, 1909, the construction of Wilmersdorf - Dahlem web. History and Structure

The station was created as part of the construction of Wilmersdorf - Dahlem subway between Wittenberg Platz and Thielplatz in the south of Dahlem. The then independent municipality Wilmersdorf wanted to consolidate with an elaborate design of lying in their field stations the attractiveness of the surrounding development area, while simultaneously underlining its own validity. The station was built in the years 1909-1913 and designed by Wilhelm Leitgebel. He is considered one of the most elaborate of the U3.

For the two approaches in the middle of the then representative Hohenzollern square Leitgebel designed similar to the others he designed Wilmersdorferstrasse subway stations stone pylons with lamp attachment and a Steinumwehrung of limestone. For the wrought iron entrance gates chose Leitgebel oak and laurel leaves, the eagle and the Hohenzollern arms and armor designs. The station hall is designed as a central platform. The walls are divided into a dark brown ceramic base and gray - purple tiled wall panels, which are themselves finished with brown capitals. In between are alternately yellow fields included with the station name and former billboards, which are now adorned with portraits of Hohenzollern Castle. The ceiling rests on rectangular granite pillars in the middle platform. It is designed as plastered coffered ceiling with gold and blue mosaic inlay, growing out of the middle of spherical lamps. The originally dark asphalted platform was a bright granite flooring with reactive control system in summer 2011. In April 2012, an elevator was put into operation. By September 2012, the basic repair and historically appropriate restoration of the station was completed. In this case, the two stone eagles were set back on the western entrance to their original place.

In the northern wall of the massive foundation can be seen. Of the original building, a metal hydrant cabinet, operating a house and a kiosk are preserved.
