Hojjatieh

The Hojjatieh Society (Persian انجمن حجتیه, also Ḥojjatiya, Hojatieh or Hojatie ) is a company established in 1953 by Sheikh Mahmoud Halabi, semi- secret, often classified as extremist Shiite Iranian organization.

Objectives and development

At the creation of the organization, this directed particularly against the Baha'is, and later against the Sunni branch of Islam, and - through their influence on the Iranian state structure - now also vehemently against Sufis. The group experienced a significant upturn at the 1979 Islamic revolution, when the Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi was overthrown and driven out.
