Hokkaido-Pony

The Hokkaido Pony (Japanese北海道 和 种, Hokkaidō washu ), as a nickname also Dosanko (道 产 子, dt as: " In Hokkaido -born child " ) is, next to the Kiso, Noma, Taishu, Misaki, Tokara -, Miyako and Yonaguni- Pony one of the eight surviving native Japanese breeds.

Exterior

The Hokkaido has a Height 132-137 cm. The profile of the snout is narrower towards the front, it's more Arabic. The body is compact, ribs well rounded and the withers poorly trained. The front legs are a little weak. The muscling of the hindquarters is sufficient if the tail is well set on, this is angled low. Like all Japanese breeds, the Hokkaido good hooves, their bone is bluish. The round hoof shape and good angulation are correct.

Breeding history

In the north of Japan, the island of Hokkaidō is. Since there lush grass grows, it is well suited to the breeding of horses. Now, as then one uses the Hokkaido there on small farms as train and pack horses. Until recently, they were even used in coal mines.
