Hólar University College

The University Hólar (Icelandic: Hólaskóla - Háskólann á Holum ) is an agricultural and tourism-oriented university in the city Hólar in northern Iceland.

Courses

The University has the departments of Aquaculture and biology of the fish, horses and customer of rural tourism. As financial statements are diplomas in water culture and fish farming, training young horses and riding instructor and ruralem tourism; Bachelor in water biology, horses and customer ruralem tourism as well as Master's degree offered in biology and water horses customer. The diploma courses last one year. The Bachelor's and Master's programs are offered in cooperation with other Icelandic colleges and take two to three years.

Resources of the university

The buildings of the university are in Hólar and Sauðárkrókur, equipment for horse and fish farming are located in the area. The University Library contains about 3,500 books, the student residences of the University offer 30 one-room and over 55 multi-room apartments. The University employs over 30 teachers and has an internal quality management program. Your sporting and leisure facilities may be shared by the residents of the surrounding villages.

Besides the three faculties there is a humanities research and teaching institution, the " Guðbrandur Þorláksson " Institute.

History

Were located along the former bishopric Holar since year 1106 school facilities, first a Cathedral School, which was converted into a secular Latin School after the Reformation took place in 1550. This was closed in 1801. 1882 was opened at the site is an agricultural college. This expanded their duties gradually and in 2003 received permission to provide their graduates degrees. On 1 July 2007, they officially began operations as Háskólinn á Holum ( University of Holar ). It is supervised by the Icelandic Ministry of Agriculture.
