History

Since when Holenberg been continuously inhabited, is not known. The first written mention is found in a document of the Bishopric of Hildesheim, before the year 1007 as " Holanberg ". The name probably goes back to the location in a depression between the foothills of the fowler. Later records show that Holenberg completely belonged to the monastery Amelungsborn since 1493. In a document of 1556 the city will be " rebuilt " as referred to, was therefore probably in the 15th century desolate fallen in whole or in part. It is assessed differently if this was the case due to late medieval feuds or by conversion into an Amelung Borner Vorwerk.
