Holger Behrendt

Holger Behrendt ( born January 29, 1964 in Beautiful Beck) is a former artistic gymnast from the GDR, the 1988 Olympic champion on the rings.

Behrendt began at TZ Beautiful Beck and later moved to the forward ASK Potsdam. Behrendt was a student of Bernd Jäger, whose hunter - Salto Behrendt showed to perfection. As an innovation Behrendt showed first gymnast on the high bar, a combination of Kovacs and Delchev somersault in immediate succession.

1984 Behrendt was on the rings for the first time East German champion. In 1985 he was in the all around eight at the World Championships, in 1987, he finished sixth. At the Olympic Games in 1988, Behrendt could not qualify for the all-around final. For this, he won two medals in individual finals, the rings he shared the Olympic victory with Dmitri Bilosertschew. For his athletic achievements at the Olympics, he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold.

After his career Behrendt worked as a gymnastics coach at SC Cottbus.
