Holger Gehrke

Holger Gehrke ( born August 22, 1960 in Berlin ) is a former German football player and current coach.

Career as a player

Gehrke played for Hertha Berlin clubs CFC 06 and SC West End in 1901, before moving to 1 FC Saarbrücken in 1982. With the 1 FC Saarbrücken in 1983, he managed to climb to the 2nd Bundesliga, but left the club and joined Blue-White 90 Berlin. In the 1985/86 season he made with blue and white 90 Berlin promotion to the Bundesliga, but had a year later to accept the direct relegated again. After 131 games, he left Blue-White 90 Berlin and played from 1992 to 1994 for FC Schalke 04, where he brought it to another 40 Bundesliga appearances. After he briefly stood in 1994 at Tennis Borussia Berlin under contract, he finally came to MSV Duisburg, for which he stood until 1998 in 60 games between the posts. The MSV Duisburg he succeeded in 1998, his greatest sporting achievements as a player, the way into the final of the DFB Cup. The last leg of his active career was the 1998/99 Karlsruher SC, where he came three more times in the 2nd Bundesliga for use.

Career as a coach

In Karlsruhe Gehrke then began his second career when he was goalkeeping coach under head coach Rainer Ulrich. In 1999 he moved back to FC Schalke 04 and was under Huub Stevens only continued to work as a goalkeeper and from 2000 as an assistant coach. In 2001 he received the license of the DFB coach after he had completed the corresponding course at the Sports University in Cologne. On 23 February 2002 he represented Stevens, who could not be in Gelsenkirchen because of a bereavement in the 3-0 win in the Bundesliga match against SC Freiburg in the dugout. Even after Stevens ' Jump to Hertha BSC (2002) and 1st FC Cologne ( 2004), Gehrke was his assistant. After Stevens left the club in 2005 for personal reasons, Gehrke remained at FC and again worked as a goalkeeper coach, first under Uwe Rapolder and finally Hanspeter Latour.

After the latter was released on 9 November 2006 as head coach of the 1st FC Cologne, Gehrke was used as interim coach. Under Christoph Daum he again worked as a goalkeeping coach. On 25 June 2009 the 1st FC Cologne announced the departure of Holger Gehrke. In the 2009/10 season, he worked with Christoph Daum for Fenerbahce. He then worked at the side of Bernd Storck for the Kazakh national team. He managed the team for two games of the European Championship qualifier in October 2010.

In July 2012, Gehrke returned to Gelsenkirchen and was again Goalkeeper coach of FC Schalke 04, his contract dating to 2015.
