Holger Michael

Holger Michael (born 1954 ) is a German diplomat and was from 2009 to 2012 Ambassador to Bangladesh. Since 2013 he has been ambassador in Malaysia.

Biography

After high school he studied from 1972 to 1977 Business Administration and graduated with a degree in business administration from. He then completed a postgraduate course at the College of Europe in Bruges and then from 1978 to 1979 an internship at the European Commission in Brussels.

In 1979 he entered the diplomatic service and was after the completion of the preparatory service from 1981 to 1982, first at the headquarters of the Foreign Office in Bonn and then worked until 1985 at the Embassy in Turkey. This was followed by his appointment as Permanent Representative of the Ambassador in Nicaragua. Between 1988 and 1991 he was again staff at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry before to 1994 was followed by a use as Head of the Department of Economics at the Embassy in South Korea.

Subsequently, he was Deputy Head of Unit for foreign trade promotion by the Federal Foreign Office and then from 1997 to 2002 Permanent Representative of the Consul General in Hong Kong. 2002 he was appointed Permanent Representative of the Ambassador to Thailand and from 2006 to 2009 head of unit for fundamental questions of foreign trade promotion in the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

From August 2009 to 2012 Holger Michael was as successor to Frank Meyke Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bangladesh. 2013 he took over the post in Malaysia, the previously Günter Gruber held.
