Holger Werfel Scheuermann

Holger Werfel Scheuermann ( born February 12, 1877 in Hørsholm, † March 3, 1960 in Copenhagen) was a Danish orthopedic surgeon and radiologist. According to him the Adoleszentenkyphose ( osteochondritis deformans juvenilis dorsi ) is also called Scheuermann's disease.

Holger Werfel Scheuermann comes from a family of doctors in Hörsholm, a small town between Copenhagen and the Sound. He began his medical studies in 1895, graduating in 1902 from the University of Copenhagen. He then completed his hospital service in various hospitals in Copenhagen. In 1918 he became a specialist in orthopedics and radiology.

He went on study trips to Germany, Austria and Sweden and was 1920-1922 Chairman of the Danish radiologist Association and 1933-1934 of the Danish radiological society. In 1936, he was also a corresponding member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. In the same year he was awarded the Order of Dannebrog.

After his retirement in 1947 he was active for many years as a private radiologist. In 1959, he finally received his doctorate - honoris causa - from the University of Copenhagen, 40 years after its original proposal.
