Action

Jim Hardy, Ted Hanover and Lila Dixon are the outstanding talents of the New York nightlife. In the opening number of their night clubs, the song I'll Capture Your Heart, however, shows a rivalry between the singer and the dancer Jim Ted about their singing and dancing partner Lila. Jim explains on Christmas Eve compared to Ted that he is disappointed in the show business and has decided, along with Lila Dixon to run a farm in rural Connecticut. Purple is however in love with Ted and has no ambitions to leave the show business. So she stays in New York and Jim pulls alone to Connecticut.

Since the farm work is too strenuous for Jim, he plans to convert the house into an entertainment place called Holiday Inn, which is open only on holidays. At the same time Ted's agent Danny Reed meets at the airport the saleswoman Linda Mason, who asked him to let it occur once in his show. He recommends to the Holiday Inn and also gives her a ticket to Ted's club for the same evening. There she meets Jim, who pretends to have a big club, and she pretends to be a celebrity. But the next day, the two meet at the Holiday Inn and give their lies to.

On New Year's Eve opens the Holiday Inn. In New York, Ted learns that Lila has left him for a Texan millionaire. He gets drunk and then drives to the Holiday Inn to talk to Jim about it. At midnight comes the drunken Ted. When Linda recognizes him, they dance together, but the next morning, Ted can not remember anything more. Jim hides Linda because he fears that Ted wants to take them away from him. At Abraham Lincoln's Birthday (February 12 ) Ted and Danny make the Holiday Inn on the search for Linda. Jim, however, is prepared and decides to make the musical number Abraham with a black make-up, so that Linda can not be detected by them. While he applies the makeup Linda, Jim asks if she wants to remain on the days when she is not working at the Holiday Inn. Linda sees this as a marriage proposal and assumes pleased. The trick with the mask works, but Ted and Danny are not giving up and plan on Valentine's Day come back.

At this Jim Linda leaves with the new song Be Careful, It's My Heart occur as a Valentine gift. In the sample but Ted comes in and dances with Linda. On Thanksgiving Day, the Holiday Inn is closed, Jim is depressed and not even touches on the turkey. He wants to send a recording of his new Thanksgiving songs I've Got Plenty to be Thankful For to Hollywood, but he is not yet convinced of the song. Mamie brings him to go to California to recover Linda. On Christmas Eve he arrives at the studio when Ted wants to go after the last rotation just with Linda to marry her. Jim, Ted is in the dressing room to talk. Before Linda turns the last scene of the movie about the Holiday Inn, Jim comes to the set and talks to the director. Jim leaves his pipe lying on the piano and is hiding nearby. Linda comes in a sleigh in the snow-covered environment, and musing about their lost love. She sings White Christmas and noticed Jim, who sings with her. So he came out of his hiding and she runs up to him, as the director terminates. Ted and Danny did you hear about Jim's plan, but too late. Jim and Linda now want to stay together and jointly lead the Holiday Inn. Ted is soon back together with Lila, who left the millionaire.

Production and publication

The film was made in 1942 from an idea by Irving Berlin and directed by Mark Sandrich at Paramount Pictures. The music was written by Irving Berlin, wrote the screenplay Claude Binyon. In the film, twelve new vocal numbers come before, and there is a resumption of Oh How I Hate to Get Up in the Morning from the year 1917.

The film was released on August 4, 1942 in the United States in the cinemas. The Germany premiere followed on 16 December 1947.

The film was nominated in three categories for the Oscar, Irving Berlin was awarded the prize in the category Best Music, Original Song.
