Holkar

The Holkar was an influential ruling dynasty in British India. They are among the clans of Maratha rulers in India.

Members of the family of Holkar Indore ruled from the 18th century under British protectorate until shortly after India's independence in 1947.

In the eponymous capital of Indore are today (2011) some of the palaces of the Maharajah of Indore. The most recent was built in the 1930s by the German architect Eckart Muthesius in the Bauhaus style and decorated in the Art Deco style.
