Music and lyrics

The piece was written by Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams, as the album was already largely completed. The text itself is not very content- heavy and full of expletives, including only 38 times the word shit ( shit '). In the public media of the United States, only one version is played in which these bodies are hidden.

The title Hollaback Girl has no traditional meaning in the English language. The term Hollaback is documented in various pieces of music only since 2001. Gwen Stefani has never explained the word in the context of Stefani single term is used to refer to a girl who has heard that another says bad things about them and they will no longer tolerate this. In English-speaking countries are discussed several variants of derivation, including so who hollers back ( someone who zurückbrüllt '), and in the denial of the piece, " is not no holla back girl " is someone who leaves it not only in words, or in another variant that you can not only zurückbrüllt, but even intones the roar.

At the end of the second verse is an allusion to the title of Another One Bites the Dust by Queen to find: It is a melody section of the title used in the background and at the text line " that's right, I'm the last one standing, another one bites the dust " sung.
