Holly Palance

Holly Palance Kathleen (* August 5, 1950 in Los Angeles ) is an American actress and journalist.

Life and work

Holly Palance is the oldest daughter of actor Jack Palance and his first wife, Virginia Baker (1922-2003), who was also an actress. The couple married in 1949 and got Holly after two more children, Brooke Gabrielle Palance ( born 1952 ) and John Cody Palance ( 1955-1998 ), both of which were also later seen in some film roles. The family lived temporarily in Paris ( in 1958 ) and in Lausanne, where Jack Palance took part in filming. In 1966, he and Baker split, in 1968 the divorce.

Holly Palance attended the Webber Douglas Academy in London. Her acting career began in the mid-1970s with small TV roles. Most notable is her appearance in 1976 as a nanny in The Omen. In the same year she appeared in the TV miniseries Dickens of London. In 1983, she played Miss Carmichael in The Thorn Birds. In Rocket Man, she had one of the central roles as Elly Dundee. In the 1980s, she hosted with her father, a season of the television series Ripley's Believe It or Not!.

Palance was married to director Roger Spottiswoode. With two films ( Rocket Man, Under Fire ) they worked together. The marriage produced one daughter and one son. She was divorced in 1997.

Later Palance worked as a journalist. At first she was ten years an editor and columnist at Buzz Magazine. Her column The Hills was reprinted in the New York Times and nominated for a Maggie Award. She also worked as a freelance writer for the Los Angeles Times, Cosmopolitan and other magazines. After that, she was editor in chief of Santa Barbara Magazine and from 2004 chief editor of Distinction Magazine, Los Angeles Times. She taught global studies at the University of California.
