Hollywood Pictures

Hollywood Pictures is a film studio founded in 1990, the Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group, which belongs to the Walt Disney Company. Michael Eisner created it, on the one hand to increase the annual feature film output, on the other hand to separate the creative producer David Hoberman and Ricardo Mestres who fought under Touchstone a contest. Mestres was awarded the chairmanship positions at Hollywood Pictures, Hoberman at the Walt Disney Pictures and Touchstone.

The first film under this new label was Arachnophobia from 1990, the first true horror thriller from the Disney Studios. So far shied away from Eisner and Wells, the high cost of production of such films. In the following years, Hollywood Pictures produced several films for a primarily adult audience as well as some movies for the target group of young people. The stylistic differences between Hollywood Pictures and Touchstone were not particularly serious, and could be attributed only to the Chairperson of the respective studios and not prescribed on an intention of the Executive Committee that the studios certain directions. Generalized Stark be affirmed that Hollywood Pictures generally spoke to a slightly older audience.

However, unlike Touchstone Hollywood Pictures is proved to be not quite so successful. In addition to audience blockbusters like The Rock - rock the decision and critically acclaimed films such as quiz show many productions found no mass audience and disappointed the critics.

Because of this, and again to produce the fact that the Group decided to fewer movies, you screwed Hollywood Pictures back and brought the management to Walt Disney Pictures.

Up to and including 2001 Hollywood Pictures produced 83 films, including The Sixth Sense. The last movie for a long time the studio was Just Visiting - Full throttle into the future. But contrary to some rumors, it was concluded at that time not yet fully from Hollywood Pictures. The dimension of film production Below appeared in some countries under the logo of Hollywood Pictures and Stay Alive was released in 2006 the first new Hollywood Pictures film in five years. If satisfied, successful Hollywood Pictures should be extended to a small, so-called genre studio which produces films that appeal to no great mainstream audience, but only fans of the particular genre. Due to the low Box office result of Stay Alive is important initially on the plan, but they gave Hollywood Pictures, a new chance by Touchstone Pictures productions were allowed to change the Studio Primeval and The Invisible. If it turns out these films as successes, Hollywood Pictures could possibly be but revived.
