Holocaust Memorial of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation

The Holocaust Memorial on Miami Beach is a memorial that commemorates the destruction of millions of Jews in the time of National Socialism, the Holocaust in Europe. It was built on the symbolic address " 1933-1945 Meridian Avenue " in Miami Beach, Florida.

Description

The memorial consists of several elements. Center is the 13 meters high bronze sculpture The Sculpture of Love and Anguish (about: " The sculpture of love and agony "), which rests on a circular platform in a pool of water. It represents an arm with a realistically designed open hand dar. The forearm is modeled from about 100 people who stand together in part in family groups. At the entrance of the memorial is a statue of a grieving mother with two children, which hide them. History

The idea for the Holocaust Memorial In 1984, a committee of Holocaust survivors. These joined together in 1985 to the charitable organization " Holocaust Memorial Committee ". The design concept designed by Kenneth Treister. The space for the memorial chose from the "City of Miami Beach Commission at Meridian Avenue and Dade Boulevard ."

The inauguration took place on 4 February 1990. Guest speaker was the Holocaust survivor and Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel.
