Geographical location

Wood grubs lies between Stuttgart and Ulm in the foothills of the Swabian Alb in 337-388 meters above sea level, right on the highway A 8

Geology

In the municipality a fossil- rich sedimentary rocks from the period of the lower Jurassic ( Lias, Black Jura) comes to light, the Posidonia Shale. Due to exceptional fossils of shells, ammonites, crinoids, fishes, ichthyosaurs, marine crocodiles and plesiosaurs in wood grubs and around the place has become known worldwide as a significant fossil deposit. The municipality is part of the excavation reserve in 1979 formed wood grubs.
