Hombolo Dam

BW

The Hombolo Reservoir is a lake dammed by a dam about 30 km north-east of the Tanzanian capital of Dodoma in the same region in the center of Tanzania. It was built by the British colonial government in 1957. The lake lies at an altitude of 1038 m and has a depth of max. 12 m. The Little Kinyasungwe forms at its inlet a wetland that dramatically increases the clear surface of the lake after heavy rain events.

The Hombole Dam is used for agricultural irrigation and water supply for the surrounding communities: Hombolo - Bwawani, Zepisa, Mahomanyika, Chanzaga, Ngaegae, Mleche, Ghambala and Ipala. the word Bwawani in Kiswahili literally means " the dam " or " in the dam. "
