Hombourg-Haut

Hombourg -Haut ( Upper German Homburg ) is a commune with 7250 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. Hombourg-Haut is part of the arrondissement Forbach and the canton of Saint-Avold -2.

Geography

Hombourg- skin lies on the edge of Warndt between Saint -Avold Freyming -Merlebach, near the border with Saarland. The community is surrounded by forest ( Forêt de Zang, Forêt de Steinberg ). The old town is situated on a promontory overlooking the valley of the Rossel.

Neighboring communities of Hombourg - skin Freyming -Merlebach in the northeast, betting in the east, in the southeast Guenviller, Macheren in the south and Saint- Avold in the west and northwest.

History

Hombourg- skin goes on a to protect the Abbey of Saint -Avold, built in the 10th century castle back ( " Altburg " at Hombourg- Bas ). Founded in 1254 Bishop James of Metz on the opposite side of the valley along with a new castle collegiate church, the nucleus of the present-day village Hombourg- skin. The castle settlement was fixed promptly and received city rights in 1283. 1581 fell Hombourg- skin to the Duchy of Lorraine, and thus in 1766 to France. In the Thirty Years ' War the castle was razed by French troops.

Culture

In the Rencontres Musicales Homburg - skin of the Festival International " Théodore Gouvy " held annually since 1989. Five of the six concerts are held in the Collegiate Church of St-Etienne, the New Year's concert in the town hall.
