Homburg Watchtower

The Homburg waiting is an observation tower at the site of a Germanic Fliehburg near the witches dancing to Thale in the Harz Mountains.

Location

About 250 m northeast of the Harz mountain theater on the witches ' dancing place causes the Sachsenwallweg through sparse oak forest to Homburg waiting. This has its location on the site of the former Homburg.

History

The Homburg served - as the Winzenburg on the Ross Bustard - the Germans as Fliehburg. It was built in 750-450 BC and was protected by the immediately upstream ramparts and the Saxons Wall. In the southern part of the rampart there is a gap and an upstream ditch behind the East Wall a running duct-like inner ditch is located.

At this point we seem to be still secretly pursued Germanic customs and beliefs after Christianization, such as the discovery of a sacrificial stone covered with swastika in 1901.

1901 established the Harz Club on the grounds of Homburg, a vantage point that increasingly fell into disuse after the Second World War. The observatory was built in 1993 and can be climbed.

View

Due to the low height of the waiting, the view to the south and east is quite limited. To the west, however, the view of the Bode valley opens up to the Brocken. In the north, inter alia, the cities Blankenburg, Halberstadt and Quedlinburg are identifiable. Directly below the valley extends to wait.
