Home (2009 film)

HOME is a free documentary by the French photographer and journalist Yann Arthus- Bertrand. The film consists largely of aerial photographs that were shot with a high resolution digital camera in more than 50 countries on all continents of the earth. On 5 June 2009 the World Environment Day, he was released worldwide simultaneously in cinemas, on DVD, on television and on the Internet. In Paris, he was shown on large screens in front of the Eiffel Tower.

Content

The film consists largely of aerial photographs from different areas of the world - from the tropical rainforest of the Arctic seas to major cities such as Tokyo, Dubai and Lagos. The spoken off-screen commentary focuses on environmental and social problems, such as global warming, overpopulation, soil erosion, depletion of natural resources, lack of drinking water and the protection of species. In the final section some positive developments will be shown how the increased use of wind energy and solar energy and the role of personal consumption style.

According to the makers, it is the intention of the film to illustrate the biodiversity of the world and the threat to the ecological balance by humans. HOME supposed to be a tribute to the beauty of nature and at the same time show their vulnerability. This should be made clear to the audience the urgency of environmental protection and the idea of shared responsibility for our planet.

Formation

The film was directed by the French luxury goods group PPR ( Gucci, inter alia, Fnac, Puma AG) funded with 10 million euros. As the logos of the Group are shown at the beginning and end of the film, it is believed by some critics that the group sees the film as part of its public relations and advertising to a positive effect of this hoped for ( greenwashing ). The Director General of PPR, François -Henri Pinault, stressing that it is necessary for companies such as PPR to work for environmental protection and to point people to the problem of climate change. Criticized the film saying that he indeed show beautiful nature scenes, but have no clear argument and no concrete proposals for action are made.
