Home Run Baker

John Franklin "Frank" Baker ( born March 13, 1886 in Trappe, Maryland, † June 28, 1963 ) was an American baseball player in the Major League Baseball. His nickname was home run.

Biography

His career as a third baseman in Major League began in 1908 with the Philadelphia Athletics. With them he won in 1910, 1911 and 1913, three times the World Series. His nickname Home Run he earned by a home run in Game 2 of the World Series in 1911 against Rube Marquard and Christy Mathewson in Game 3 against the series against the New York Giants. In the three years that followed, he led the American League in home runs each. 1916 sold him the Athletics to the New York Yankees. Here he took part in two other World Series, but lost with his team in 1921 and 1922 against the Giants.

In 1956, Baker was elected by the Veterans Committee in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
