Home Squadron

The Home Squadron was the middle of the 19th century a part of the United States Navy.

It was erected in 1838 and was intended to protect the coastal trade, helping ships in distress, fight pirates and slave trading ships and prepare for their use in remote areas. It was used in the Mexican-American War and dissolved at the beginning of the Civil War, when the ships were required for the blockade of the ports of the Confederacy.
