Homebrew Computer Club

The Homebrew Computer Club was a club computer of interested hobbyists in the United States, among its members a large number for the development of the computer industry were important personalities later, such as Bob Marsh, John T. Draper and Adam Osborne and the two founders of Apple, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak.

The first meetings of the Homebrew Computer Club were held in Menlo Park in San Mateo County Silicon Valley in March 1975 in the garage of one of its members. The members were hobbyists, but most of them had an electronics or programming background.

During the meeting, they talked about the Altair 8800 and other technical topics and exchanged circuit diagrams and programming tricks. Soon after the first meeting surfaced all over the world amateur computer clubs, such as the Dutch Homebrew Computer Club, to whose members met near the city of Utrecht.

The term homebrew has received a different meaning over time and today usually referred to unauthorized or self-created programs for game consoles and handheld consoles.
