As a home brewing or Homebrewing is defined as the non-commercial / private production of beer for their own consumption.

Terms of Use

In Germany may only be made tax-free from any citizen of up to 200 liters of beer per year. For quantities in excess of the free allowance, beer tax is payable. For home and hobby brewers the reduced rate for independent breweries applies. In Switzerland, which is produced by private individuals with their own facilities, beer used for own consumption exempt from the tax on beer. In Austria, only commercially produced beer is taxed.

Brewing process

The basic procedure when Homebrewing is not different from the processes in industrial breweries. There, however, the production is now computerized and automated, while Homebrewing is entirely handmade. However, some hobby brewers invest their money and effort into the (partial) automation of their brewing process. Brewing takes 8-10 hours, so you need a whole day for this purpose, the, care being taken to the good preparation " Brautag ". A " short-term " re-order the mail order business can certainly reduce the brewing success. The usual Sudmenge are 20-25 liters of beer, but larger Sude are possible. The amount of work depends largely on the amount brewed, to this one should leave the view in the selection of equipment, even if the rash can be further enhanced with special procedures ( High Gravity ).

The Bierkitbrauen is the entry into their hobby for many home brewers. When brewing beer kits with the home brewer saves the preparation of the wort. The " wort concentrate" ( malt syrup or powder ) is available in different pack sizes for most popular beers in the trade. Brewing with malt extract ungehopftem has the advantage that the amount of added hops is self-determined and thus the bitterness and aroma of the beer for the home brewer over beer kits. Although about two hours during wort boiling is required, but it does not last all day like the mash brewing. The extract with 75 % original wort is first diluted to the desired wort. During the subsequent wort boiling the hops pellets are added and simmered about 1.5 hours, then allowed to cool the wort and starts the fermentation.

The mash brewing process largely corresponds to the currently used commercial brewing, albeit with other devices and tools.

Hausbräu

Hausbräu (including Vat, skids or home brewer beer) referred to in Franconia, in southern Thuringia, the beer brewing by formerly authorized individuals ( homebrewer ) is brewed in the municipal brewery or at the local brewery. It is collected from the beer Grasp than green beer in their own barrels and set up home in the basement or another cool place to ripen. The uncontrolled secondary fermentation and a variety of home recipes ensures a wide spectrum of taste variants of originally the same beer. Prior to the revision of the beer tax law still existed, the distinction between Altbrauern (own barley cultivation and delivery, biersteuerermäßigt ) and Neubrauern ( anyone).

Hausbräu from community breweries is approved today per person and calendar year to 200 liters tax free and only for private use. Hausbräu from commercial breweries is fully taxable, but is also only consumed privately with one exception. Genuine Hausbräu as a finished product is not available. Hausbräu from newly Communebrauereien is also offered as Vizinalbier, which is due to the supply of the neighborhood and the particular need for care of this beer. Today, for the purchase of Hausbräu no special rights more are required.

A similar tradition in the Upper Palatinate is the Zoigl.
