Homer V. M. Miller

Homer Virgil Milton Miller ( born April 29, 1814 Pendleton District, South Carolina, † May 31, 1896 in Atlanta, Georgia ) was an American politician who represented the state of Georgia in the U.S. Senate.

Born on the territory of today's Anderson County Homer Miller moved with his parents in 1820 in Rabun County, Georgia. He attended local public schools and made in 1835 graduated from the Medical College of South Carolina in Charleston. He then traveled to further medical studies in Paris; after his return he began to practice as a doctor in Cassville.

Miller first joined the Whig Party and competed in 1844 as the candidate unsuccessfully for a seat in the House of Representatives of the United States. During the Civil War he served as a surgeon in the Confederate Army; yet he was also responsible as a hospital inspector for Georgia. After the war he worked as a doctor in Rome. He also belonged to the faculty of the Atlanta Medical College.

1867 Miller took part in the Reconstruction Convention of his State. After the resumption of Georgia to the Union, he was elected to the Democratic Party in the U.S. Senate, where he remained from July 28, 1868 until March 3, 1871; However, he was supported only recognized on February 24, 1871 as a full member of the parliamentary chamber. As a result, he was curator of the University of Georgia in Athens. Miller died in 1896 in Atlanta and was buried in Rome.
