Homeward Bound (song)

The folk-rock ballad Homeward Bound of the American duo Simon & Garfunkel was written in 1965 by Paul Simon. Early 1966 released as a single, it reached number five on the U.S. and number nine on the UK Singles Charts. In the fall of 1966, the song appeared on Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme, the third studio album by Simon & Garfunkel.

Formation

The song was written by Paul Simon in 1965. Simon, then 22 years old, was on his way from a gig near Liverpool to his girlfriend Kathy to London and had to wait at a station. This should have been the station of Widnes. There is now a plaque that indicates the origin of the song.

Chart positions

As a single, the song reached number five on the U.S. charts Billboard Hot 100 and number nine of the British UK Top 40 in both charts, it was represented for twelve weeks. In the German Media Control Charts in the singles charts in Austria and the Swiss singles chart, it reached no positioning against it.
