Homiyu Tesfaye

Homiyu Tesfaye (born 23 June 1993 Debre Zeit, Ethiopia ) is a German track and field athlete of Ethiopian origin. He is 1,82 m tall and 64 kg. His specialty disciplines belong to middle distance running.

Career

Homiyu Tesfaye was born as Ethiopians. In July 2010, he made an application for asylum in Frankfurt am Main; a year later he went for the first time in a junior competition in Germany at the start. Since July 2013 he is eligible to start for Germany. His exercise bike at the LG Eintracht Frankfurt is the DLV 's coach Wolfgang Heinig.

Tesfaye finished at the World Championships in 2013 in the 1500 meter run - the fastest Europeans - for fifth place.

Controversy about the age and identity

Homiyu Tesfaye is accused of being the active until 2010 in the youth field Ethiopian runners Henok Tesfaye Hey (born 23 February 1990). After his asylum application in July 2010 complaint was filed because of social fraud; since there was a controversy surrounding Tesfayes age and identity.
