Homogeneous (chemistry)

A homogeneous system is a term from physics.

In thermodynamics, a physical system is called homogeneous if there are no interfaces between macroscopic parts of the system are in it, at which properties and composition are different. Is in contrast to the heterogeneous systems.

Homogeneous systems are, for example,

  • Gas mixtures
  • Liquid and solid solutions
  • Each chemically homogeneous body that is completely in the same physical state
