Homosassa is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Citrus County in the U.S. state of Florida with 2,578 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Homosassa is from U.S. Highway 19 (SR 55) and 98 is tangent to a common line. The CDP is located approximately 25 km west of Inverness and about 100 km north of Tampa.

Religions

In Homosassa, there are 24 different churches from 12 different denominations. Among the belonging to a denomination churches the Baptist church is best represented with 7 churches. There are 4 to no denomination belonging churches ( as of 2004).

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 2,578 inhabitants distributed to 1,936 households. The population density was 125.1 inh. / Km ². 97.6 % of the population were white, 0.4% African American, 0.4% Native American and 0.3 % Asian Americans. 0.2 % were members of other ethnic groups and 1.0% of different ethnicities. 1.4% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 52.9 % of all households lived in 13.0 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 62.2 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.01 persons and the average family size is 2.43 people.

11.8% of the population were younger than 20 years, 9.5% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.1% were 40-59 years old and 51.8 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 61 years. 49.0 % of the population were male and 51.0 % female.

The average annual income was $ 53.983, while 16.1 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 100 % of the population.
