Honau is a municipality in the constituency Lucerne Land of the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland.

Geography

The community is located between Reuss and Rooterberg between Lucerne and train. From the area of ​​only 124.86 ha 68.6 % are agricultural land, 19.2% forest and woodland and merely 9.6 % is used as a settlement area.

The highest point of the municipality is located at 652 m asl on Rooterberg, the deepest on the Reuss to 403 m asl

Population

1798 Honau had only 81 inhabitants. This number grew to 1880 to 155 persons on, long stagnated and then fell in 1970 to 84 inhabitants. Since the opening of the motorway connection Gisikon in 1986, a marked increase in population is recorded.

Languages

The population was originally purely Catholic. Through migration religious minorities were added. Today ( as of 2000) is only a narrow majority of 60.31 % of the population are Roman Catholic; 20.63 % are Protestant. Non-Christian minorities are the 10 % non-religious and 5.31% Muslims.

Origin and nationalities

In 2000, owned 91.25 % of the population Swiss citizenship (of which 88.44 % only the Swiss Pass). Immigrant minorities make up the 4.06% people (including dual citizens 4.06% ) from Serbia and Montenegro; 1.56% ( 1.56% ) come from Macedonia. History

For the first time Honau is indirectly mentioned in 1344 in a document where a " Ulrico de Honowa " appears as a witness. Together with Gisikon Honau shared the fate of the neighbors. Various gentlemen as lords of the Habsburgs and in 1422 the acquisition by Lucerne as part of the bailiwick of Habsburg.
