Honda S-MX

Honda S -MX

The Honda S -MX (Japanese:ホンダ· S- MX) is a minivan, the Honda produced between 1996 and 2002. In appearance, it resembles the larger Honda StepWGN, but is shorter in length and height. During the StepWGN three rows of seats and up to eight passengers offered space, had the smaller S -MX only two rows of seats for four or five passengers. In order to maximize space for passengers, the S -MX used a column shifter for the only available 4- speed automatic transmission. The S -MX was powered by a 2.0-liter version of Honda's B- series engine with two overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. The power was 130 hp (96 kW) at 5500 tours. This engine was also fitted in the Honda CR-V. Similar to the CR-V, the S -MX with front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive was available. As usual, in Japanese minivans this time, the S- MX provided only one ( conventional ) rear door on the passenger side of the vehicle. Supposedly, this feature was for the safety of passengers, to prevent rash stepping out into traffic.

The production of S -MX ended in 2002 and the model was only replaced by the Honda FR-V in 2004.
