Honda TN 360

Honda TN 360

The Honda 360 TN with his followers in the long running TN 360 Series is a pickup truck, the first time in 1967 as the pickup came on the market and the Honda T360 replaced. The TN 360 used an air-cooled 354 cc two -cylinder engine with an overhead camshaft, which originally came from the 450 - motorcycle Honda CB. The previous T 360 was equipped with a very complex twin- cam four-cylinder engine while this engine newly introduced (together with the Honda N360 sedan ) was more suitable for mass production. The engine was mounted in the TN 360 as a mid-engine standing under the cargo floor.

TN 360 1967-1970

The TN 360 had its premiere in November 1967 and remained in production unchanged until January 1970. He reached the same maximum speed of 100 km / h as its predecessor and lower fuel consumption. This also helped thanks to a simpler construction, the weight reduction of 610 kg for the old T 360 to 500 kg for TN 360 The power remained with 30 hp ( 22 kW) at 8000 revolutions per minute unchanged, but torque increased slightly to (29 Nm ) at 5500 rpm. The TN 360 also had a much tighter turning circle of 7.6 meters now. The only body version was at the premiere in Japan called the truck pickup. However, after only a few months on the market in March 1968 Honda added a van to offer added. This was just a pickup with a tightly bolted construction in four different configurations available (with or without sliding side doors and a version with a tarpaulin roof ) at a slightly higher price. Due to poorer aerodynamics and slightly higher weight, the maximum speed for the van was only 90-95 km / h

TN 360 Snowler

In November 1969 Honda presented an interesting variation of TN 360, the " Snowler ". This had removable ski mounted on the front wheels, while the rear wheels were replaced by Caterpillars with rubber strap. The maximum speed of Snowler was 45 km / h with a weight of 655 kg. The price was more than 55 % higher than in a regular TN 360, but offered only a Honda vehicle with this kind of skills at such a comparatively low price.

TN 360 III 1970-1972

The slightly facelifted Honda TN 360 III was the end of January 1970 in the sale. The big " H" for "Honda" remained, but there was now a larger chrome grille, chrome bumpers, larger rear view mirrors and a slightly more comfortable interior. The 4 -speed manual gearbox was fully synchronized. The TN 360 III was introduced simultaneously with the facelift of the Honda N360 and the Honda LN 360 Van models. In addition to the facelift, the biggest news was the addition of a Super Deluxe version, which was equipped with a radio, cigarette lighter and whitewall tires. The Snowler and van models were still available and in total there were now 28 different models. The range continued to grow in July 1970, when a pickup version with solid walls and a rear tailgate came on the market instead of the three -boards- flap.

TN 360 V 1972-1975

The TN 360 V was introduced in June 1972. The TN 360 V received a large grille and two vertically arranged headlights. The oversized "H " on the front was replaced by the " Honda " lettering. The engine now had a lower compression, which was necessary in order to meet the stricter emission standards, and made by only 27 hp ( 20 kW) at less than 7000 rpm. The modified engine was now also able to be operated with unleaded gasoline, thanks to a different alloy of the valve guides and seats. The weight of the base model remained at 540 kg. The TN 360 V now had a driver's seat belt as standard ( for front passenger as an option ) and the turn signals were now mounted separately from the taillights. In August 1973, the TN was 360 V slightly modified to meet new safety standards.

TN 360 7 1975-1977

In August 1975, the TN 360 7 was introduced. The main difference to V was that the engine could now comply with the stricter the 1975 emission regulations. Visually, only changed the bumper now black instead of dark gray with side covers. The model was supported by the emission measures with some 555 kg heavier. The seat belt on the passenger side was now also standard features such as a previously optional electric wipers. Production ended in July 1977 after about 700,000 TN 360 when Honda Honda Acty the larger presented. The TN 360 7 was the last air-cooled car that was produced in Japan.
