Honeoye Falls is a village ( village) in the U.S. state of New York. It has 2674 inhabitants and is located in Monroe County at the small river Honeoye Creek is named after its waterfalls.

History

The town was founded in 1791 by Zebulon Norton, who first established a grain and later a sawmill here. The erection of the mills soon led to a growth of the place, which was initially known as " Norton 's Mills ". A bridge over the river was built in 1810 and connected the two parts of the village, which was called at that time "West Mendon ". In March 1838, the site was officially registered as a church and subsequently led its present name.

Three of the churches that were built in 1841-1874 in Honeoye Falls are, today. By 1902 the town had about 1,500 inhabitants and about 50 businesses, including banks, retailers, phone companies and hotels.

Demography

According to the census of 2000, there were 97.1 % of the 2,595 inhabitants White. 1.0 % of the population were African American, 0.8 % Asian and 0.2 % Native American. 0.2 % belonged to other races, and 0.7 % more.

1.0% of the population were Hispanics ( Hispanics ). 21.2% were German Americans, 18.4 % had Irish, 17.3% English and 12.5 % of Italian descent.
