Honey extractor

A honey extractor is a machine ( beekeeping equipment ), in which by centrifugal honey is extracted from honeycombs. In the honey extraction skidding is the essential operation of the beekeeper. Another, directly connected to the spinning work is the uncapping the honeycomb. In addition, the coming out of the centrifugal honey runs through a screen, which mainly restrains wax.

Design and operation

The honey extractor consists of a cylindrical drum, a honeycomb basket, which is fixed to a rotary shaft and a drive, and a drain cock.

To spin several (2 to 52 and even more) entdeckelte honeycombs are used in the honeycomb bin and then rotated by the drive depending on the model. The centrifugal force thereby injects the honey from the honeycomb to the inner wall of the drum, it runs down to eventually flow out of the drain cock on the Honigsieb into a container ( bucket ).

There are honey extractors with electric drive and manual ( hand crank ). Depending on the version of the honeycomb spin during the spin cycle from the beekeepers themselves or a device ( self- turning spin ) in the spin flipped ( reversed ) must be to win the honey from both sides of the honeycomb.

In addition to this type of construction for smaller spin, wherein the combs are disposed tangentially, there are large designs with radial honeycomb arrangement. Here, the honeycomb are provided in a holder with the upper edge to the outside, and the slight inclination of the honeycomb cells utilized for the horizontal to the fact that the honey can flow on both sides of the honeycomb at the same time. This does not apply to the radial spin the honeycomb - turning or rotational direction change ( self- turning spin ).

In the 19th century, together with the honey comb was melted by heating. The components were later separated. Today, the honey is spun without heating. Hence the name comes cold thrown on the labels.

Products

The product obtained with a honey extractor may, in contrast to compression or comb honey, are marketed as extracted honey. The spin has been the proliferation of honey extractor at the beginning of the 20th century by far the most common Gewinnungsart.

Invention

Was invented the device from the Italian Major Francesco de Hruschka (1813-1888) ( German: Franz Edler von Hruschka ) in Venice, where he lived after his military service in Austria - Hungary's services. In 1865, he put the device on a walking meeting of beekeepers in Brno before under his company name Angelo Lessane.
