Hong Kong national football team

The national football team of Hong Kong (Chinese香港 足球 代表 队, Pinyin Xiānggǎng Zúqiú Dàibiǎoduì ) represents the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China in football. It is subordinate to the National Football Association The Hong Kong Football Association Ltd..

History

The team represented Hong Kong already at international football events before the year 1997, when the country was still a British colony. This continued after the handover of Hong Kong to the People's Republic of China and its conversion into a special administrative region in 1997. Hong Kong has since, like Macao, its own independent of the national team of the People's Republic of China national team, in the spirit of "one country, two systems " doctrine.

The first international match of Hong Kong took place in the years 1949 to 1953 each instead of against the South Korean national team. The first international game in history lost Hong Kong in 1949, therefore, against South Korea with 2:5. The first victory of a football team in Hong Kong dates back to 1953, when you could also win against South Korea 4-0.

Hong Kong qualified for three of the first four Asian Championships. 1956, was able to achieve a third place as host.
