Honky-tonk

A honky -tonk, also Honky Tonk, is a kind of pub that is particularly widespread in the United States. The term dates back to the late 19th century. His exact origin is unknown.

The term was understood before a coarse and loud restaurant serving alcohol and live music. After the end of Prohibition in 1933, these originated in the U.S. in large numbers. They became social meeting places, especially for the lower layers. Today the term is used for many live music pubs mainly in the southern and southwestern United States.

From Country artists such as Bob Wills, Ray Price and Hank Williams honky -tonk music was established as a separate genre. The Billy Bob 's Texas in Fort Worth bills itself as the largest honky -tonk in the world.
