Honoré I, Lord of Monaco

Honore I of Monaco (* 1522October 7, 1581 ) from the family of Grimaldi was 1532-1581 Lord of Monaco.

Honoré I was the son of Lucien Monaco and nephew of Augustin of Monaco, after whose death he succeeded to the inheritance for rule over Monaco. As he was in 1532 only ten years old, succeeded Etienne Grimaldi of Genoa, to take over the command and the administration over Monaco in his name. Etienne, who was courtier under Charles I of Spain before, soon examines the autocracy. But Honoré learns to assert himself and his claims. He recognizes Etienne as co-ruler for life and shares with him after his majority rule.

In 1545 he married Isabelle Grimaldi, a niece Etienne. Rising expenditure on the fleet and their castles to Honoré and Etienne ruin almost completely. The main courtyard of the Palace of Monaco today and the Hercules gallery arise during this time.

1561 dies Etienne. Honoré surrounds herself continue with " fine arts, military exercises and other respectable pleasures ". Wars he avoids.

With his wife Isabelle Honoré has fourteen children, four sons survive him, who died on October 7, 1581. He is succeeded by his eldest son Charles II
